Either or? No, neither nor!

Dear Mr Prime Minister,

Thank you for setting the record straight for our future generation. It is my wish, in our 50th year of independence, that there'll be no further pronouncements on this issue by PM-wannabes who seek their own personal political mileages.

"Malaysia is not a secular state and neither is it a theocratic state. We are a government that is based on parliamentary democracy - a government that is responsible to Parliament and the people, a government made up of Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and Christians, a government that works together and discusses together development policies for the nation.

"We have always given attention to every group and our leadership is based on consensus among all races. This is what makes Malaysia unique and this diversity has enabled us to live in peace and harmony. Our country’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious compositions have never been a problem to Malaysians. Be it a
surau, masjid, temple or church, when there is a need for it, the Government gives the necessary aid. Secular nations do not practise such freedom. To them, religious practice can only be done at home."
