General Elections: Observations 1

It is quite interesting to see that the representation from the Indian community has increased in this new Malaysian Parliament but not in a way that the Barisan Nasional preferred.

In 2004, there were only 12 Indian Malaysians in Parliament, comprising nine from the Malaysian Indian Congress, one from the People's Progressive Party and two from the Opposition.

Now, the number stands at 15. The People's Progressive Party has been annihilated while the Malaysian Indian Congress is reduced to only three seats, of which their highest-ranking official is their secretary-general S Subramaniam (incidentally, my classmate from a very long time ago). The Opposition parties now contribute to the remaining parliamentarian seats in Indian Malaysian hands.

I hope they contribute meaningfully to the Parliament proceedings or otherwise, they may become only Bollywood parliamentarians. Carpe diem!
