Brickfields

Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur is a very colourful area. When one walks along the main street in Brickfields, Jalan Sambanthan, one cannot avoid the sights and smells of Little India. For example, look at these arches lining one side of the road. Colourful, aren't they? They bring out the character of Brickfields:

If you are lucky, you may even catch some enterprising persons offering to read your palms. But just be careful. The palm reader may just be admiring the lines on your palms. So there! 😁

Among all the restaurants and eateries in Brickfields, I can vouch for the quality of this one which serves very good Indian vegetarian food. It has a very unique name too. If Mr Naan & Mrs Idly is meant to let this place stand out from other Indian restaurants there, they have definitely succeeded beyond expectations:

It is not only the shop's name that is refreshing. Walk in and you'll find the interior wall decorations are just as interesting. This, for example, right at the back of the restaurant:

I went there in April and then again in May, both times when I had to go to Kuala Lumpur to attend to some business. It is just a stone's throw away from the railway station, maybe a 200-metre walk. The second time I was there, the restaurant was promoting a buffet lunch for RM15 -- I think it was RM15, but I may have forgotten -- but we chose to order from the menu. Loved the palak paneer as also the bendi masala which we took with various types of naan bread. Yummy!

Of course, you will find many Indian temples, big and small, in Brickfields. After all, why should it be called Little India if there aren't any Indian temples around? But surprisingly too, there are a number of churches here, plus a mosque and a Buddhist centre, the Maha Vihara. Quite a melting pot of religious beliefs.
