Comic sound effects

Splitch. Bzzownt. Doont. Fleen. Sklortch. Fladap. Glurp. Fwapp.

Don Martin had an imaginative mind. He imagined up a whole array of sound effects for MAD Magazine. Got a situation? He had an answer to it. That was what attracted me to this monthly satire of magazine in the first place. I was exposed to MAD Magazine during my student days in Petaling Jaya in the mid-1970s. Staying in Section Eight meant that I could go to the nearby Thrifty Supermarket - then considered a top-range shopping outlet for exclusive imported foodstuff - and while my time at their magazine stand. I cannot remember how I first picked up an issue to read but once I did that, I was hooked to the magazine for a very long time. I would buy my copies of MAD Magazine from Thrifty and enjoyed hours chortling away in my room.
