Beijing paralympic torch

In case you don't already know, the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games are being held at the same venues as the Beijing Olympics. The opening ceremony last night also featured a similar lighting of the paralympic torch.

However, there was none of the simulated running around the stadium's ring ala Li Ning. All that Hou Bin did was to hoist himself in his wheelchair to the base of the torch where he then lit it.

But before then, when the paralympic flame arrived at the Bird's Nest, it was taken around the stadium by a group of Chinese paralympic participants. I think this is the most poignant of the scenes at the stadium: torchbearer Ping Yali being accompanied by a guide dog.
