Gala screening in KL

On Monday night (1 July 2019), after a lot of anticipation, the Gala Premiere of the documentary film, The School that Built a Nation, was screened at the Golden Screen Cinemas at the 1Utama shopping mall.

The Raja of Perlis was the guest of honour at the screening and those people that paid RM1,000 for the tickets had the privilege to be seated in the same hall as him. The Gold class, so to speak. Others though, those that paid RM100 per ticket and most of the invited guests, were seated in a separate theatre.

I found this rather odd because guests like Datuk Anwar Fazal and my old Headmaster, Datuk Tan Boon Lin, who both featured prominently in the documentary film, should have been invited to sit in the Gold class with the Raja. This recognition should have been accorded them without question and they would have deserved it. But I'm not really very surprised by the slight given them.

Anyhow, I still haven't been able to see the film yet and my attempts at a sneak preview have been rebuffed repeatedly by the film's director who kept insisting that I've to see the film at the Golden Screen Cinemas at the Queensbay Mall in Penang to find out the film's content. Aiyah....I've still got to wait that long.....

But I've managed to download a few pictures taken of the occasion from the facebook of The Old Frees' Association Kuala Lumpur & Selangor and I would want to share some of them here for record. So here goes. Let's start with the Raja of Perlis and his mobile phone. 😄

Ripe time to sing the School Rally. Do you know the words?

Tan Boon Lin attended the screening with his family, but there were some bored faces 😎

And that's Anwar Fazal having a few words with the Raja of Perlis

Good that they did try to sell a few copies of Let the Aisles Proclaim
