Few comic strips make a lasting impression on me. At one point, I thought that Peanuts was the best comic strip to feed my nostalgia, but not any more. While the characters - Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and Lucy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang - were cute enough, the story lines were lukewarm and felt lame to me after a while. However, the one legacy strip that has really left a lasting impression on me is Calvin and Hobbes. Superb artwork and very good story lines, many times addressing social issues. Never knew that a six-year-old comic character could spew so much timeless wisdom. But that was all due to the strip's creator, Bill Waterson. Such brilliance.... [PS. I also liked MAD Magazine but I shall leave that to another day.)
