The FIDE ID, issued by the World Chess Federation (Fédération Internationale des Échecs, FIDE), serves as a lifelong identification number for chess players. Obtaining a FIDE ID is the initial requirement for any aspiring chess player looking to participate in a FIDE-registered tournament. Such tournaments are recognised by FIDE, and their results are eligible for rating purposes. For players aiming to achieve a FIDE rating, acquiring a FIDE ID is the crucial first step on their journey.
If you are Malaysian, please follow these steps to register for a FIDE ID with the MCF:
- Make sure you do not have an existing FIDE ID. Check your FIDE ID status from this link: http://ratings.fide.com/
If you don't already have a FIDE ID, proceed to Step #2. - Pay the registration fee of RM50 to the Persekutuan Catur Malaysia (CIMB Bank Berhad, A/C No: 8000649725).
- Remember to save the payment receipt (IMPORTANT).
- Have your MyKad scanned.
- In this link, https://malaysiachess.org/fide-id-application/ click on the Application Form of your home state.
- Fill up the FIDE ID Application Form and attach the payment receipt and MyKad images.
It takes about a week for the FIDE ID to be assigned as there are internal processes to follow within the MCF. After the FIDE ID is obtained, you can then proceed to take part in any FIDE-rated event of your liking.
