I overheard this conversation in Hokkien at lunch today.
Woman: Hey, long time no see!Duh!
Man: How are you?
Woman: Okay, lah! How about you?
Man: Okay. You still working?
Woman: No, I stopped a few months back to take care of my baby.
Man: I see ... (pause) ... you married already?
Woman: Say, didn't you come to my wedding?
Man: Oh, ya, lah!
Scene Two:
And then, I carried out this conversation in Bahasa with someone calling from SkyNet Worldwide. Skynet is supposed to be a courier service but frankly, their service sucks real time with staff like this:
Man: Are you Quah Seng Sun?Duh, again!
Me: Yes
Man: I'm from Skynet. We've been trying to deliver an item to you for two days. Is your address blah, blah, blah...
Me: Yes, I'm expecting it but why haven't you delivered it yet?
Man: No one at home
Me: No one at home? I've always someone at home. Did your man ring the bell?
Man: I think he was horning from his delivery van
Me: Horn? You expect people to come out when you horn? Cars pass by and they horn. Do you expect people to come out every time someone horn from the car? Ask your man to ring the bell!
Man: Okay, okay ... I'll ask him to try again
