Neighbourhood robberies

Came home about three hours ago to hear some disturbing news about my neighbourhood: Taman Jernih in Bukit Mertajam.

One of my son's teachers was almost the victim of a daylight robbery. As she was coming out of the car to open the gate, she sensed a motorcyclist come speeding towards her. So she got back into the car but before she could lock the doors, the robber opened the door and tried to snatch away her bag. That being unsuccessful, he tried to pull her daughter away. Luckily, that was also unsuccessful. Her screams brought a lot of people to her house but by then, the robber had sped away. In another incident, I also heard about another failed robbery attempt in the same neighbourhood but I don't know whether it happened before or after the one I described above. Anyway, the news I heard was that this bugger was caught and walloped properly before the police arrived. Served him right!

But the increase in robbery incidents here is a BIG cause of concern! Neighbourhood watch is not enough because nobody can watch the neighbourhood around-the-clock. It'll still boils down to every household for themselves. Keep a look-out for suspicious characters and keep the gate and front door locked at all times. Carrying whistles and pepper sprays may be the recommended actions but I doubt anyone who is confronted by a robber can ever react in time. The robber would have come and gone in a twinkle of an eye!
