VCR Bangsar

The first thing my wife and I did upon our arrival in Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of this month was to ask our daughter to bring us to the VCR Bangsar café. I've been there twice before and my wife once, and she wanted to go try the fusion food there again. So the three of us trooped into the restaurant - it was almost full on a Friday at about one o'clock - but we could still find an empty table. I can't remember the exact names of our dishes but they looked like these:

My wife's choice came first. I had expected her to order an aglio-olio which she did not disappoint me. This should be called Typhoon Shelter, if I'm not wrong. Here, the pasta was topped with three soft-shelled prawns.

My Soft Shell Crab Burger dish came next. Can see the poor crab guarding the egg with its life. It was described in the menu as "Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab, Onion Jam, Quick Pickle Cucumber, Housemade Tartar Sauce, Furikake Sunny Side Up".

And this Pennsylvania Soul was chosen by my daughter. It had the most imaginable description in the menu: "Can’t F**k It Up Fried Chicken, Potato Waffle, Thai Basil, Chrysanthemum Syrup".

I also ordered their caffé latte with an oat milk alternative but unfortunately, their version wasn't as satisfactory as the one served at the Ang Ang Roastery outlets in Penang.

Talking about Ang Ang Roastery, here's what happened during my last visit to one of their outlets in Bukit Mertajam. This was in July. The three of us dropped by this outlet and we ordered their caffé latte with oat milk. Mine came first and that's the one seen in the top left of this picture. Just a very simple design. I was a bit disappointed. Then my daughter's cup came next and the design, top right in the picture, was impressive enough. We were wondering how they were going to top it up with the third cup for my wife. What superlative design awaited us? When her cup was served after a slightly longer-than-usual wait, we were surprised. A botched-up job by the barista? Or a hint of something vulgar? Oh, what a visual letdown indeed! 😆 But I must add that their caffé latte with oat milk was very good. Two 👍👍 for them! PS. I do believe they roast their coffee beans themselves for distribution to all their outlets. Maybe the freshness does make all the difference.
