Today marks the Coming of Spring according to the Chinese luni-solar calendar and at 5.15am this morning, I filled up my rice bucket following a tradition in my family. I had also pasted a new piece of paper with the chun (春) character on it. This is a great cultural tradition to follow but there is nothing spiritual or religious about it. It is all very symbolic to wish for a bountiful year without any lack of wants in my household. I know that my great-grandparents did this, followed by my grandparents and parents, and now it is left to me to carry on.
