179th anniversary

We had a dinner last weekend to celebrate the 179th anniversary of the Swee Cheok Tong Quah Kongsi in Penang. Apart from our own Kongsi families, we were happy to welcome guests from the Malacca Swee Cheok Tong Quah Kongsi (马六甲瑞鹊堂柯氏公会) and the Persatuan Chiyang Selangor & WP (雪隆济阳辛柯蔡宗亲会). A few clansmen also came all the way from the Ow-Quah village in Haicang District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China. The evening brought together representatives from several Penang-based associations too, including the Chay Yeong Tong Sin Quah Chuah Chong Soo (槟城济阳堂辛柯蔡宗祠), Tong Aun Kim Har Association (槟榔同安金厦公会), Sam Toh Bean Lok Keok (槟榔屿三都联络局), and Cheang Chew Association (槟榔屿漳州会馆). Altogether, about 100 people turned up, and it made for a warm and meaningful evening. We were especially pleased to have State Assemblyman Teh Lai Hin as our guest of honour.
